First, the two floats together
Here, the washer chopped down with a dremel (allowed the float to fall back to a specific place in the "well".

Mike, that was quite the piece of creativity and engineering.
And the plumber who replaced the sump pump was very impressed with it and with how it worked.
It really made for a "memorable" day.
